Renata & Marek Ormandík

The present exhibition is a result of common life, existence, efforts and creativity of Renata and Marek: painting, crocheting, drawing, knitting, thinking, inspiring one another.

The exhibition and the accompanied catalogue represent the record and the lost of their current works for the first time together. It was about time.

This exhibition is a good one. Because in the year filled with disillusions and fear we need good exhibitions. Good art. Much as the art of Renata and Marek. A little bit dark, a little bit dreamy, a little bit story-telling, a little bit silent, cawing, dabbled, spilling, playful, serious, funny, sadly serious, seriously sad. Their.

Prof. Peter Redjar, Uol.

“They are cowing, screaming. For real. As if they were driven by some engines, or sensors. Every time I take a look, they seem to have moved. They had to move… And the painter is coming all the time. He is moving the pictures from wall to wall, sometimes bringing new ones… And there is one more thing I wanted to tell you. In that curator´s text, it was quite funny that the artists, husband and wife, first met as children at a masked ball. She was disguised as bird. Bizarre. And he was disguised as a bouquet. That´s really too much, it can´t be true.”

Miso Ormos

Marek Ormandík

He focuses on painting, drawing, sculpture and illustration.

Ormandík (according to Peter Milčák) is a painter with a clearly distinguishable, original expressive style. Many of his works are based on biblical and mythological themes that are significant in terms of both culture and values. His engagement in these subjects and the current time of experience are projected into their interpretation, often leading to the hyperbole ad irony.

Ormandík started displaying his works during his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. He held many solo shows in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Russia, Slovenia, Croatia, Hungary, France, Italy, Norway, Germany, Austria, etc. From the latest one can mention the exhibitions such as “Painting” at M1 Gallery – Kunstzone in Ger (2017), “Trans Portion” at MUO in Zagreb (2017), “Night Cruise” at Bellart Gallery in Vienna (2018) or “Marek Wall” at the Danubiana Museum in Čunovo (2019).

He also took part many group exhibitions, such as “Dialogues” at the Cite des Arts in Paris (2015), “Murmur of Angel Wings” at the Museum of Modern Art in Olomouc (2016) or “More than 30…” at the Zoya Museum in Modra (2018).

In 2007, he was awarded the Meulensteen Art Award, in 2010 the Crystal Wing.

The artist´s oeuvre was documented in many publications, the most resent one was the monograph “Marek Ormandík” by Miroslav Haľák and Zuzana Kizáková (Bratislava: Slovart, 2019)

Renata Ormandík

She focuses on sculptural objects, jewellery and accessories.

As Zuzana Gažíková put it, Renata Ormandíková is a ropewalker without a safety net. In front of the astonished audience, she balances on the rope, keeping the balance (mostly by a crochet hook or knitting needles) between high art, grandma design, infantile “knit-toying” and kitsch. It should be mentioned that she never falls down. This is the essence of her postmodern art.

She prepared her own fashion shows, participated in a series of fashion shows “Fashion Bratislava”. She worked as a costume designer in theatre performances, such as “English is easy”, “Gothic”, “Comics”, “Soap Opera”, “John and Yoko”, “Models 2”, “Waiting for Gott”, “Pit-bull”, “Actresses”, “Vodka and Chrome”, “Taxi”, or “Online” for GunaGU theatre. In 2004, she designed costumes for the Slovak film “Two Syllables Behind”. As a custome designer she participated in a production of dozens of advertising spots. In 2008 she opened her own gallery: little shop titled “Cosmic Beauty”.

In 20111 she prepared her solo show “Trophies” for the Centre of Koloman Sokol in Liptovský Mikuláš. In 2012 she displayed her design project “Wedding” at the galleries Michalský dvor and River Park Gallery in Bratislava.

Ormandíková participated in many group exhibitions in Slovakia and abroad. In 2018 she participated in the project “More than 30…” in Zoya Gallery in Modra. In 2019 she took part in the international triennial of textile art “Textile art of today” that took place in all V4 countries.
